Summerhill House is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) committed to providing safe, loving homes and holistic care for children orphaned or made vulnerable as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Located in KwaZulu-Natal, the centre offers not only shelter but also stability, support, and opportunity for children who have experienced profound loss and hardship.
The centre comprises:
Four family-style homes, each accommodating six children and a dedicated house mother, creating a nurturing environment that mirrors the warmth and structure of a real family.
A well-equipped community centre
A vibrant library to encourage literacy and learning
Sports fields to support physical development and recreational activity
Beyond residential care, Summerhill House runs impactful community outreach programs, including:
A feeding scheme that provides daily hot meals to over 200 disadvantaged children during school holidays
Homework support and tutoring, led by dedicated volunteers, to ensure academic progress
Sports activities and educational day outings, giving children healthy outlets for creativity, play, and personal growth
