BNW Potjie Competition

BNW Potjie Competition

On 1 November 2025, the spirit of community came alive at Townsend Park, Ballito, as the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) marked its 21st anniversary with the much-anticipated 2nd FUNTASTIC Potjie Competition. The Rotary Club of Zimbali was honoured to be invited to join this vibrant community celebration — and we were proud to show up in true Rotary fashion.

This milestone event celebrated more than two decades of community safety, partnership, and trust built by BNW. Local residents, families, and businesses gathered to share food, stories, and laughter in a relaxed and festive atmosphere — all while supporting a cause that strengthens our neighbourhood.

With a R50 entry, attendees were treated to samplings of three delicious potjies prepared by various local businesses and groups. Each pot was filled with flavour and heart, from spicy chicken stews to hearty beef and oxtail classics — and no one left hungry. Kids under 12 entered free, ensuring families could enjoy the day affordably. The event had something for everyone: hotdogs, candy floss, cakes, and more were available, creating a truly joyful and inclusive atmosphere for all who attended.

While the Rotary Club of Zimbali was not an organiser of the event, we were thrilled to take part as guests and community allies. Representing the club in the best way possible, Rotarian Stanley joined the friendly cooking competition — apron on, smile wide, and potjie simmering. His participation added an extra dose of warmth and Rotary spirit to the day.

As a club, we also proudly contributed a donation of R15,000 to Ballito Neighbourhood Watch in recognition of their incredible work over the past two decades. It was our way of saying, “We see you. We support you. And we value the safety and unity you help build every day.”

Community events like this are not just about food — they are about connection. The Potjie Competition brought together neighbours, civic leaders, volunteers, and supporters across Ballito in a shared celebration of what makes our town thrive: collaboration, safety, and shared responsibility.

The Rotary Club of Zimbali sees its participation in events like this as part of our broader mission: to support, uplift, and partner with organisations and individuals who are already making a difference. When we join hands, our reach multiplies.

Since its inception, Ballito Neighbourhood Watch has been a trusted presence in the lives of residents — responding to emergencies, promoting safety, and keeping the lines of communication open between authorities and the public. Their volunteers and leadership have created a model that many towns look to with admiration.

As they celebrate 21 years, we at Rotary Zimbali extend our respect and appreciation for their consistency and courage. It was a joy to be invited to this event and to show up in support of their ongoing efforts.

This celebration reminded us of the power of showing up. Whether you’re stirring a potjie, contributing a donation, or simply cheering on your neighbours — every action adds to the collective good.

The Rotary Club of Zimbali remains committed to being present in our community, ready to serve where we are needed. We thank our members who joined the celebration, and especially Rtn. Stanley for representing us so warmly and generously at the event.
