In the wake of the recent hurricane that devastated parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the Rotary Club of Zimbali has stepped up to provide much-needed support to the affected communities. Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to service and community support, the club has contributed over R15,000 to the victims, an amount that was generously matched by Brian, a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF). In addition, the club has mobilized its resources to prepare over 250 Jars of Hope, a project designed to provide nutritious meals to those in need.
The hurricane left a trail of destruction, affecting countless lives and causing widespread damage. Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, the Rotary Club of Zimbali quickly organized a fundraising effort to support the victims. The club’s contribution of over R15,000 was a significant gesture of solidarity and compassion. This amount was further amplified by Brian, a dedicated PHF member, who matched the donation, bringing the total to over R30,000.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the hurricane,” said Kosalen Thaver, the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Zimbali. “Our club is committed to providing relief and support to those in need, and we are incredibly grateful to Brian for matching our contribution. Together, we can help the affected communities rebuild and recover.”
In addition to the financial support, the Rotary Club of Zimbali launched the Jars of Hope project. This initiative involves preparing dry food in jars that can provide a balanced meal for a family of four. Each jar contains a mix of nutritious ingredients such as rice, lentils, beans, and seasoning, ensuring that the recipients have access to healthy and easy-to-prepare meals.
The club prepared over 250 Jars of Hope, impacting more than 1000 individuals. This effort was made possible by the dedication and hard work of the club members and volunteers, who came together to assemble and distribute the jars to those in need.
The Jars of Hope project not only provided immediate relief to the hurricane victims but also highlighted the power of community action. By working together, the Rotary Club of Zimbali and its supporters have made a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the disaster.
“The Jars of Hope project is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community,” said Thaver. “We are proud to have been able to make a difference in the lives of over 1000 people during this challenging time. It is our hope that these efforts will provide some comfort and sustenance to those who have been impacted.”
As KZN continues to recover from the hurricane, the Rotary Club of Zimbali remains committed to supporting the affected communities. The club plans to continue its fundraising efforts and explore additional ways to provide assistance and aid.
“We are in this together,” Thaver emphasized. “The Rotary Club of Zimbali will continue to stand by the communities of KZN, offering our support and resources as they rebuild and recover. We encourage everyone to join us in these efforts, as every contribution makes a difference.”
The Rotary Club of Zimbali invites all those who are passionate about community service to join our efforts. With the combined dedication of its members and the support of the community, the club aims to continue its mission of service and make a lasting impact.
